Topping the bill on HMF 2018’s Darby Road Stage (near Campbell Ave.) will be acclaimed, longstanding Canadian power-pop quartet Sloan. The band’s latest album, its 12th, is simply titled 12 (Yep Roc Records) and also features 12 songs – three by each of its members, all of whom are terrific singers, songwriters and musicians. It’s yet another gem in a strong catalog of LPs that also includes such fan favorites as Twice Removed, One Chord to Another, Navy Blues, Never Hear the End of It, The Double Cross and Commonwealth. Andrew Scott (drums, guitar, vocals), Chris Murphy (bass, drums, vocals), Patrick Pentland (guitar, vocals), and Jay Ferguson (guitar, bass, vocals) formed Sloan in 1991 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Now based in Toronto, the group regularly earns raves from fans and critics alike for their hook-filled, bouncy guitar pop and energetic live sets that positively radiate with joy.
