Recess was formed in early 2001. Dave and JP recorded and released “Face the Day” with longtime friend and drummer, Eric Kenlin, and enjoyed local success. Numerous radio and television appearances helped support turnout for shows throughout the Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre areas.
A family hiatus was taken in the mid-2000’s and Eric officially joined George Hrab and the Geologic Orchestra. Dave and JP continued to write songs, including “Take Me With You”, but the search for a new drummer was put on hold. In the meantime, JP began what was to be a solo cd effort – ironically, with George Hrab to play drums. This project led to a reconnection with longtime friend and musical partner, Peter Sackmann. Originally, this yielded a recording of the song, “Someday”.
Eventually, it was decided that Peter would join JP on the recordings in earnest and officially join Recess, turning the solo album into a duo collaboration and finally a full, NEW band release!! Peter and JP have taken over the drum and percussion duties for the recording, while the search continues for the right drummer.
Even before “Take Me With You” has been released, the group has achieved some happy milestones. The song, “I Want You”, was featured in an episode of “Drop Dead Diva” on Lifetime. The song, “Take Me With You” was featured and discussed on the “Oh, Mary!” radio talkshow in Los Angeles, starring comedians Mary Kennedy and Paul Jacek. This led to JP writing their new theme song for the show, “Born to Sing My Song”.
