Celtic Women

Celtic Women And FriendsCeltic Women And Friends   presents a repertoire that includes a wide range of traditional Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Breton and American tunes – jigs, reels, polkas, hornpipes, airs, songs and ballads.  Performances feature  vocals,  fiddle, guitar, cello, oboe,  bagpipes, percussion, and may include the Bombarde (a Breton folk oboe) to accompany a traditional Breton dance.   Blarney is included at no extra charge.

Celtic Women And Friends has appeared at the Bethlehem Music Fest, Green Lane Scottish Festival, Graeme Park  Scottish Festival, The Welsh Society, Gorgas Park Concert Series, Erdenheim Park Concert Series, Concerts by Candlelight at the Chalfonte Hotel in Cape May and numerous church concerts throughout the Delaware Valley.

Members of  Celtic Women and Friends are:

Susan Simon, bagpipes, oboe, whistle, founder of Celtic Women and Friends, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Musicwhere she majored in oboe performance.  Susan has been a member of the Emerald Society Pipe Band and the Cameron Highland Pipe Band. Susan is a member of the Philadelphia Wind Symphony.

Don Simon,   bodhran (Irish frame drum), percussion, vocals.  At one time an active member of community theatre, Don has appeared locally at Allens Lane Cafe Theatre and Stagecrafters.

Brenda Norris, guitar, vocals, studied guitar at Elizabethtown College as part of her training as a music therapist.She taught at Suburban Music School and serves Music Therapy clients of all ages in Delaware County.

Dorothea DiGiovanni, violin, has a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from The Catholic University Of America.  She plays in Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, in a string quartet and sings in a choir.

Augie Fairchild,  cello, flute, studied cello at Moravian College, and earned his M.S. in Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  He has studied Irish flute with Baltimore legends Frank Claudy and Laura Byrne.

Barbara Nyce, vocals, whistle, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Moravian College and a Master of Music from Temple University. She was the director of the Suburban Music School in Media. Barbara performs in solo and chamber music concerts and teaches voice  throughout the Philadelphia area.
